posted Jun 5, 2016, 5:09 AM by Mary Walker

  • Atlas Tree company will be in the neighborhood Monday - Wednesday June 6th - June 8th to remove and prune the trees.
  • Trash cans - please remember to put your garbage cans out of site the day of trash removal.  During the home inspection that occurred on a  Friday morning there were several homes that still had their garbage cans either on the street or in front of their garages.
  • Safety - Please ensure that your lamp post lights are working.  These are the only lights we have in our neighborhood.
  • Waterfront - please ensure your boat, canoe, or kayak have both the Reston Association decal and the Brenton Cove decal attached to the vessel.    I am working with Reston Association to remove a kayak that does not belong to our association.  RA will be looking at all vessels to ensure both decals are affixed.  NOTE: If you store your canoe/kayak on your property and you plan to put the canoe/kayak in any of the Reston lakes, you still need both decals affixed to the vessel.  Please let me know if you need a Brenton Cove decal.

The 2015 annual homeowners meeting will be held on Sunday November 15th at 4pm at the Sunset Hills Montessori School auditorium.     There are several children in the school that have peanut and tree nut allegies.  The school raised their concerns about having these items at the school to include touching the door knobs.   Please ensure that noone brings any nuts to the meeting or have any peanut/nut oil on their hands/clothes.  Thank you.

    Car break in

posted Aug 18, 2015, 8:02 AM by fred smith & james dean

A neighbor’s car was broken into the other night.  There was no sign of forced entry.  Everyone is encouraged to keep your cars locked, car alarms on and if possible park in your garage and or driveway.  It also might be helpful if everyone could make certain that their lamppost lights are working and if we can all turn on all of our front door lights at night.  Thanks

Next Board meeting will be Mon Sept 14 7 pm at 11115 Little Compton Dr

The next board meeting is currently scheduled for Mon Sept 14 at 7 pm at 11115 Little Compton Dr.  The meetings are open for members to observe and have an opportunity to speak on matters which they wish to raise to the Board.  Please contact board members if you plan to attend, as the meetings are held in the homes of board members rather than larger meeting places and may need to arrange seating for those wishing to attend.  (Larry Passar— alpassar@aol.com  or 703-725-9297 (not available during workday), Mary Szpanka—  tax.doc@verizon.net or 703-716-9709, and or Dave Hoy, debanddavehoy@verizon.net or  703-919-9303).   The board hasn't finalized the agenda and will forward that shortly--it will be similar to previous meeting agendas.

For different reasons, James Dean and Lili Melillo are no longer serving on the Board of Directors.  We thank them for their service on the board and all their contributions to our community.

Brenton Cove Cluster Association (BCCA) bylaws state that BCCA “..shall have a minimum of three and a maximum of five directors.  Any vacancy occurring on the board may be filled at any regular meeting of the Board by the affirmative vote, in person or by proxy, of a majority of the remaining directors, provided that cluster members have first been notified  of the impending action of the board.  Any director elected to fill a vacancy shall serve until the expiration of the term of the director being replaced.”  Lily's term was scheduled to expire in October, 2017, James's in October of 2016, I believe.

In order to give those interested in serving on the Board adequate time to discuss their interest with us, the board has not filled either of these vacancies yet, but hope to be able to at our next meeting in August, date yet to be determined.  We welcome and encourage any member of BCCA (defined in BCCA Articles of Incorporation and bylaws as "owners of record" of a BCCA home) to contact any of the current Directors,  (Larry Passar— alpassar@aol.com  or 703-725-9297 (not available during workday), Mary Szpanka—  tax.doc@verizon.net or 703-716-9709, and or Dave Hoy, debanddavehoy@verizon.net or  703-919-9303)

PLS SECURE TRASH & RECYCLING to prevent it from BLOWING AROUND NEIGHBORHOOD; & MORE

    posted Jul 8, 2014, 6:53 AM by james dean   [ updated Apr 16, 2015, 6:33 AM ]

Homeowners should secure all trash & recycling so it does not blow away.  Please remember that trash should be put out just prior to sundown the night before and trash containers should be put away as soon as possible after pickup. Trash containers should be stored in a location that is not visible from the street (i.e. garage). Recycle items are picked up on Thursdays only. Homeowners should secure all trash & recycling so it does not blow away.  Adhering to this, will help keep our neighborhood beautiful & clean.  Thanks

With the weather warming up & people being outdoors more, please make certain that your outdoor lights are working & that they have working light bulbs.  This will help ensure everyone’s safety in our neighborhood as well as help prevent car break ins.

Please remember to drive carefully when bicyclists are around.  Please remember to pass at least 3 ft to the left of cyclists at a reasonable speed.  Its VA STATE Law.  Please drive slowly & carefully in our cluster to keep our children & neighbors safe.   Please also remember that 8 out of 10 crashes in VA are blamed on cell phones use.   So, please be very careful when driving & using your cell phone.  We also ask that you keep to a maximum speed of 10 MPH in our cluster.  Please remember to stay on the proper side of the street & to obey all stop signs by coming to a full stop.   Parents are also encouraged to supervise their children while at play.  Thanks.

The Board has adopted a new resolution by a unanimous vote that states that “NO NAILS, SCREWS, STAPLES  or other items that will penetrate the painted surface of the picket fencing may be used to affix holiday or other decorations, planters, signs, or any other items either permanently or temporarily to the fences.  Rather, non-penetrating fasteners must be used for such purposes.”  The resolution further states that “no other devices may be affixed to the fences which will have the effect of cracking or marring the paint on the fences.”

Due to our grass & topsoil issues, the board voted to install some topsoil & grass seed around the new fences & in several problem spots.  Please DO NOT WALK ON THE NEWLY PLANTED GRASS SEED & TOPSOIL & PLEASE KEEP DOGS OFF OF IT AS WELL.
